go on yankee break my heart
there's nothing left for us to say now
even best friends have to part
Effective April 01, 2004 publication of new content at OpenBSD Journal will cease. Jose and I have decided that it is time for us to move on to other things. We're tired and burned out. So, that's pretty much that in a nutshell. We will no longer be publishing new content. I'll leave the site up as is for another 4 to 6 weeks, then I'll terminate the hosting agreement and take her offline.
This will certainly seem to you, our readers, a hasty announcement. In fact, Jose and I have been discussing this issue for quite some time. The decision to cease publication was made over a month ago. As for announcing this on April 1, chalk that up to our quirky sense of the absurd. Since many of you seem to have an unhealthy fixation on conspiracy theories, let me assure you of the following:
- We really are just tired of doing this.
So, I'll keep this short and sweet. Thanks to everyone who submitted. Without your participation, this never would have been. Special thanks to those of you who consistently submitted really good material. More than anything else, you are the ones who determined the direction and content of OpenBSD Journal. If OpenBSD Journal ever amounted to anything, it was because of that. Thanks to Sera Systems and Hurricane Electric, our early hardware and bandwidth providers. Thanks to New York Internet for their support for the last year. I would really like to compliment nyi.net on the comprehensive and hassle free nature of their support. You guys are truly top drawer. I can post a trouble ticket online and get resolution of a problem faster from nyi.net than I can from the company I work for.
Well, that's about it. Later.

So I would like to announce the birth of the new OpenBSD Journal: OBSDJ.
I've set up the first bytes of the new site, and will try to get a minimal engine up and running later today. The new location for the new OpenBSD Journal, OBSDJ, is http://obsdj.baselabs.org
I hope I can count on your support to continue this great source of information regarding OpenBSD. Please continue to submit your stories, questions, ...
Thanks,
Christophe VG

What bugs me the most is that this crap only happens on internet news sites. Radio and TV don't do dumb crap like this, it's just that people on websites somehow think that the things other media have learned, does not apply to them.

Deadly.org's April Fools post back-fires :)

from the you never know what you gonna get department
In a nice attempt, the maintainers of deadly.org tried to pull a very cruel
April Fools' joke on their readers. Announcing that they would end
the OpenBSD Journal was not the thing most readers wanted to find
out about when they woke up. But such a joke can be countered and
suddenly a lot of people were not so sure anymore. The annoucement
of OBSDJ, the successor of the OpenBSD Journal, could suddenly go
both ways: 1) it was a counter-joke 2) it could really become what
it announced to be.
The reactions, through the deadly.org forum and the initial
submission form on OBSDJ, were sometimes hilarious. Only a few got
the real joke and thought continuing based on the original joke
was a great idea. I'm sorry for all other who thought I didn't
look at the calendar this morning, and I must say, it was great
fun seeing you guys fall for this one :)
Thanks to James for kicking off this great joke but even more
thank yous to all who so willingly, with open eyes ran into this
one. Those of you who got the picture, well, you guys will have
had as much fun as I did today :)
