OpenBSD lost Acki

Contributed by grey on from the RIP dept.

From Philipp Buehler (pb@):

Hello, Robert 'Acki' Depenbrock died a few days ago at the age of 32.
He was a big fan of OpenBSD, ran OpenSSH and OpenBSD mirrors and was spreading the word as good as it can be. Here's my personal feeling about this sad story:

These days a relationship to my dear friend Acki ended way before its time.

I am deeply confounded by this. This exceptional guy who always treated other people with respect, politeness and anything you wish to be treated well, abruptly passed out of life.
There would be no need for the word War if there were more people like Acki.

While I had not much contact with him during the last few years (silly me), I am really saddened by this and wish him an 'open heaven' and his family and friends my heartfelt sympathy for their loss.

    Very sad. What happened?

      According to the link Phillipp provided (and a free translatation tool), it appears to have been from complications of diabetes.

        This is slightly off topic, but a few months ago my doctor told me to get a test for diabetes after I started showing some of the symptoms (swelling hands and feet, dry mouth, increased urination, tiredness, blurry vision). I still haven't gotten around to checking up on that. I really should.

        I've never had the pleasure of having any exchanges with Acki, but certainly, this is a shame. Let it also serve as a reminder, for the sake of diabetes awareness.

          Uh .. get checked. As should be obvious from this unhappy post, diabetes is not to be taken lightly.

            Of course. I haven't made that appointment because I've been "busy" -- and yet it really is a matter of life and death. Sometimes, we just don't think it will happen to us, for whatever foolish reason. I'll be making that phone call on Monday, god willing.

    I'm no doctor, nor do i try to act like one... But this tragic news does raise some (general) questions. For what i managed to decode from the google translation, he past away (diabetes) in his sleep. Just like that ? No physical warnings when the blood/sugar balance was to high/low ? .....{shocked}

    My condolences go out to his loved ones, friends & family.

    Very sad to hear - he sounds like a rare someone who inspired love and admiration in those close to him.
