OpenOffice.org 3 is coming

Contributed by mitja on from the covered-in-yellow-stickers dept.

Following his recent commit of OpenOffice.org 3 port, Robert Nagy (robert@) writes in to remind us all that the upcoming 4.5 release will have both OpenOffice.org 2 and OpenOffice.org 3 packages available. After the 4.5 release, the editors/openoffice is going to be removed from the builds and there will be no more packages of it.

If you want to make sure that we have a stable and functional port of the latest OpenOffice.org version, get involved! Now it's the time to start testing the editors/openoffice3 packages and help iron out the remaining bugs.

Seems more than openoffice3 and openoffice will be present in 4.5, and 4.6 onwards will only have openoffice3

Will OpenOffice 3 require 10 gigs (or more) of harddrive space to build it like its predecessor?

It is wishful thinking if you think it would take anything less than that ;)

For what it's worth, compiling it in Gentoo takes ~6GB.

Not a big deal what so ever, but I am just curious as to if anyone have any idea how many lines of code there is in the complete application? Is it more then Windoz$?

I never downloaded the source and even less compile from port, but if anyone knows I would be curious to know. If not, I sure will not loose any sleep over it either.

        Thanks

Wikipedia says ~10 million for openoffice and ~40 million for windows xp

Makes me wonder just what that many lines of code are for. Or why you need 10gb to build it.
