Heads up! softraid(4) news

Contributed by johan on from the here-we-go-again dept.

Marco Peereboom sent an important update about his work on softraid(4) to the tech mailinglist.

Because further changes are needed to the metadata format of this driver Marco is asking that you be patient and wait another couple of days before recreating your softraid array so that another couple of changes can be committed.

Please read on for Marco's message:

Ok folks I just noticed that I forgot to add some entries to the
metadata so that I can deal with restartable rebuilds. So don't get too
attached to V2 of the metadata; I will soon commit a V3 that will
slightly modify it to incorporate it. This should be only a couple of
days so don't put anything critical on those volumes just yet.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks again Marco! How close do you think softraid(4) is to being a production-ready non-moving target?

Couple of days. I think we can move raid 0 and crypto into production once I am done with the metdata bit. With some luck I'll be able to get rebuild done which makes raid 1 also production ready.

Has there been any progress on v3?
