Yet another OpenBSD book coming out this year (this one is due in November). This is a pretty impressive year for the project.

It would be nice is there were more details about what will actually be covered in the book. It's nice to see more books about OpenBSD coming out, lets hope that will lead to more CD, tshirt and other purchases to help support the project further.

I wonder if Mr. Carter has permission to use the OpenBSD Blowfish on his book. Isn't that stuff copyrighted by Theo?

Why would Theo pitch a fit over someone using his material in a book about HIS project? Doesn't that seem a little pointless? "Well sure, you can write a book over what I made, but you better not use anything that I have!"

Most images provided here are copyright by OpenBSD, by Theo de Raadt, or by other members or developers of the OpenBSD group. However, it is our intent that anyone be able to use these images to represent OpenBSD in a positive light. So enjoy them and let the world see them, if that is your wish.

One of the editors at Wiley got permission even though by the looks of the webpage, it probably isn't necessary. CYA...

The book also has a foreword written by Theo. I don't think there's any problem...

There were two other OpenBSD books (the one from jacek from o reilly and on called the 'openbsd gazetteer').

Wim (from kd85) said they would inform interested people when it was available for purchase through kd85 (openbsd eu).

Has anyone got any word on those two books as to release date, availability, ...

Well, Absolute OpenBSD's release date has been pushed back from April, to June, and now to July. So who knows when it will really be released. Perhaps Absolute OpenBSD and OpenBSD Security will come out at about the same time.

The OpenBSD Gazetteer has grown to such proportions that I had to split it into two books: one is entirely on the subject of pf, the other is for OpenBSD users and administrators.

      More news at http://www.devguide.net .

If you want to be notified when the book is available, joint the jacek-obsd mailing list (announcements only, no spam, low traffic).

It's too bad you can't even view the archives of that list:

Man, we seem to be in the midst of an open source renaissance. Wonder if there'll be any NetBSD books coming out at some point.

Hmm, depending on how the book is written/complied, you could just port over the book to NetBSD. :)
